Thomas Edison was a scientist. He was from Ohio.

He was born on February 11, 1847. He lived about 200 years ago!

Back then, people had to light a candle or lantern to see at night.

4 People did not have plug sockets in their houses. There was no electricity.

Edison worked in a lab. He worked on inventions. He made new things.

Edison invented light bulbs for lamps.

Edison connected electricity to houses. People could plug things in.

People did not need candles or lanterns anymore. They had lamps.
