Orville and Wilbur Wright were brothers. They are famous for inventing and flying the first airplane.

The Wright Brothers were very good at fixing and inventing things. They were good mechanics.

The Wright Brothers loved bicycles. Old bicycles had a big front wheel. They were difficult to ride.

4 Bicycles were very popular. Many people rode bicycles to go places.

Wilbur and Orville opened a bicycle shop in Dayton, Ohio. They sold and repaired bicycles. They also invented parts to make bicycles better.

Orville and Wilbur also invented things that fly. They tried to invent a kite that a person could ride on.

Then they invented a glider that a person could ride. The ride only lasted a few seconds, but they were excited.

8 Finally, they invented an airplane. They flew it in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina on December 14, 1903.
