The Middle Colonies were part of the 13 colonies.

The land was good for farming. Farmers grew wheat and corn.

Bread is made of wheat. The Middle Colonies were called the breadbasket colonies.

Farmers also had livestock. They had cows, pigs, and chickens.

There were forests. Lumberjacks cut down trees in the forests.

Wood from trees is lumber. Lumber was used to build ships.

There were big rivers. Boats took wood and food to other places to sell.

There were ports. Ships took food and wood across the Atlantic Ocean to sell.

The Middle Colonies had resources. They had good land for farming, forests, rivers, and ports for boats.
